What is Astigmatism?
Astigmatism, like short-sight or long-sight, is related to the shape of the eye or the mechanisms responsible for the eye’s focusing power resulting in lack of correct focusing.
A common description is the eye, instead of being tennis ball shape, has a egg or rugby-ball shape.
How Astigmatism Works
Astigmatism results from the rays of light in on particular direction focusing differently the light from a different direction.
Astigmatism Symptoms
Symptoms of astigmatism include:
- Blurriness
- Headaches
Astimatism and Contact Lenses
A special type of contact lens is used to correct for significant astigmatism. These lenses are called toric lenses, as opposed to spherical contact lenses which only correct for short-sight or long-sight.
